🌟 The Story of Dutch Kyle’s Coffee Co.
Inspired by a dog who changed a department, a community, and a man’s life.
Dutch Kyle’s Coffee Co. wasn’t created in a boardroom or dreamed up as a business plan. It was born from a Dutch Shepherd named Kyle, a police officer with a calling, and a chain of events that could only be described as meant to be.
Where It All Began
Police Sergeant Darrell Haley had one dream: to become a K9 handler and help stop the flow of drugs moving through his City, County, and State.
In April 2024, while attending a law enforcement conference at in Orlando Fl, Darrell crossed paths with Janeen, a woman headed to the same event. They struck up a conversation, and a friendship formed instantly. Darrell later invited her to become a reserve officer with his department — and that connection would change everything.
Janeen ran a nonprofit dedicated to training and providing Critical Incident Response K9s for police, fire, and other agencies. When she learned Darrell wanted a patrol dog, she promised to help him make it happen.
The Dog Who Found His Purpose
A few months later, Janeen’s brother Paul, a retired California Highway Patrol officer, called her with news: He had a Dutch Shepherd he wanted to donate to a department that needed a patrol K9.
There was only one condition — the dog had to keep his name: Kyle.
Darrell didn’t hesitate. Not only did he love the name, but Kyle was also the name of a Minion — and Darrell happened to be a huge Minions fan.
Kyle was transported from Utah to Texas, where he met Darrell and Janeen for the first time at the department. From that moment, something clicked. Kyle and Darrell bonded instantly.
A Dog With Heart, Humor, and Drive
Over the next year, Kyle made an impression on everyone he met. He was goofy, happy, full of personality — the kind of dog who could brighten a room just by walking into it.
But when it was time to work, Kyle transformed. Focused. Driven. Serious. A true patrol K9.
Darrell and Kyle trained every single day. Kyle challenged him, pushed him, and made him better. Their bond grew stronger with every session, every breakthrough, every moment of trust.
A Legacy Worth Brewing
After nearly two years together, Darrell wanted to honor Kyle — not just as a partner, but as a dog who had changed his life and made a lasting impact on the community.
He tried starting a Facebook page, but social media wasn’t his thing. Then one sleepless night, the idea hit him:
Coffee. Something people love. Something that brings communities together. Something that could help support K9 programs just like the one that brought Kyle into his life.
And so, Dutch Kyle’s Coffee Co. was born.
